Beauty Box 5

While Austin, Texas has typically been known for its world-class music scene, few realize that we’re also an up-and-coming mecca for fashion. So much so that we even have our very own fashion week! This years annual event runs August 10th to the 18th and features designers from Texas (Austin of course), Florida, Nigeria, Argentina and more. There will be amazing clothes, swimwear, jewelry, shoes and accessories gracing the runways at various events across town the entire week! Since I know a fun-filled fashion getaway might not be in everyone’s budget, I wanted to share some of the featured designers on our blog. I’ve also made a few recommendations as to the beauty lines you might like based on each designer. I hope you enjoy!

Raven + Lily, Designers: Using design as a platform to help alleviate poverty among women, Kirsten Dickerson and Sophia Lin founded Raven + Lily as a, “socially responsible brand dedicated to empowering women through design partnerships and sustainable economic opportunities.” Their products (jewelry, scarves, paper products, etc.) are fashion-forward and heavily influenced by the raw, eco-friendly materials their artisans employ during production. Love this designing duo? Check out 100% Pure. Proud supporters of a number of charities, this environmentally conscious brand is 100% natural, 100% vegan, gluten free AND uses sustainable fruit and vegetable pigments for color!

Sarah Eileen, Custom Bridal Designer: Sarah’s collection is said to embody elegant, innovative designs and feminine detailing. Thoughtfully crafted to fit a woman’s figure, her collection has been described as, “classy non-traditional marries luxurious glam.” Bridal fashion of course makes me think of Mirabella Cosmetics. The only cosmetics line on the market with their very own bridal program, Mirabella has taken the guess work out of bridal makeup for good! Check out their salon locator to find the closest Mirabella retailer in your area. Oh..and take a few minutes to discover the amazing bridal looks they’ve created.

Cynthia Bloom Collectible Jewelry: An eclectic blend of antique, vintage and modern, Cynthia’s collection features rare antique hand-blown, hand-cut Czech glass beads and buttons, modern Swarovski Austrian crystals, fresh water pearls and unique gemstones. While Cynthia’s colorful designs would typically make me think of brands like Sugarpill or Urban Decay, I think lovers of this line will relate best to Skyn Iceland, one of our partner brands. Created using the therapeutic glacial waters of Iceland, nurturing minerals and trace elements of the country’s volcanic rock and potent Icelandic and arctic botanicals, Skyn Iceland is just as unique and thoughtful as Cynthia’s beautiful designs.

Herff Christiansen, Clothing Deisgn: Inspired by the urban landscape of Austin, this simple, architecturally-grounded line of interchangeable pieces has gained much-deserved acclaim as well as a home in exclusive retail outlets across the country. Architecturally as unique and versatile as Herff Christiansen’s designs and with style to match, Ellis Faas is the perfect cosmetic accessory for lovers of this line. Based on the naturally occurring colors of the human body, this striking line of cosmetics believes in the notion that there is no better way to highlight a feature or mask an imperfection that with the tones and hues that already exist in each of us.
