I'm looking for that perfect pink lipstick! I'm irish and have fair ivory skin and freckles, brown eyes and brown hair.

Hi erin-cc!

Alright my dear…as you know, choosing a new lipstick can be a huge ordeal and you can spend hours wandering from counter to counter rubbing your lips completely raw trying on new shades. Since I don’t have a picture to work from, I’m want to give you a few tips that might prevent a little premature exfoliation as you head out to find that perfect pink. With your coloring, I would start in the more sheer, but full color gloss-finish lipsticks like Mirabella’s Colour Sheers. (If you want me to be a little more specific, please post a pic here or send one to me at [email protected].)

Before you ask for help, ask yourself these questions…then make sure to share your answers with whoever is helping you at the store. (While most makeup artists know to ask these exact questions, quite a few will fall short so it’s best to be prepared!) I also recommend going somewhere that has a number of brands under one roof and where the same person can help you across all the brands…Nordstrom, Sephora and Ulta are all great for this.

1) What kind of pink you’re thinking about…soft, bright, pale?

2) Do you want a shimmer, matte or satin finish?

3) Do you want a gloss finish or a full-color lipstick?

4) What kind of texture do you prefer? (Some lipsticks can be rather dry, others have a lot of slip.)

If you don’t know the answers to these questions, my suggestion is to go to Sephora or Ulta (if you have one close) and start tying on products from their in-house brands. Typically, they’ll have a ton of colors, textures and finishes in all one place and you’ll be able to test them out easily. Choose a few pinks to try on that appeal to you and then pick 1 or 2 that don’t…you’d be surprised how often it’s the one’s we don’t like in the tube that look the best on us. ;)

Also, don’t be afraid of mass brands like Revlon or Almay. While you can’t try them on in the store, you can ALWAYS return them…just hold on to your receipt! …and don’t buy them until you’ve settled on the actual shade of pink you’re looking for. :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions and do share with us when you find your perfect pink!

Peace, Love & Samples,

Felicity
